Science Syllabus Grade 3-7
Science and Technology are closely linked, especially through the skills of scientific inquiry, technological problem solving and communication. Thus, throughout this course students will be conducting research based projects and experiments related to the topic.
Grade 3:

- Importance of soil
- Human actions affecting soil conditions and ways to maintain healthy soils
Grade 4:
Unit: Rocks and Minerals
- Different types of Rocks and Minerals
- How different rocks are formed
- Characteristics and properties of rocks and minerals
- Impact on society and the environment of extracting and refining rocks and minerals for human use
Grade 5:
Unit: Forces Acting on Structures and Mechanisms
- The weather and factors affecting it
- Water cycle
- Types of Clouds
- Effects of forces from natural phenomena (e.g. earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis) on the natural and build environment
Grade 6:
Unit: Electricity and Electrical Devices
- Electricity as a type of energy
- Insulators and Conductors
- Static Electricity
- Types of Circuits
- Building different types of circuits
- Environmental effects on the different ways in which electricity is generated in Canada
- How electricity consumption can be reduced
Grade 7:
Unit: Heat in the Environment
- Heat Energy
- Use of Particle Theory to compare how heat affects the motion of particles in different states of matter
- Sources of Heat
- Heat Transfer
- Causes and effects of Heat on the Environment
- Greenhouse Gas effects on the transmission of radiated heat through the atmosphere
